yes, pregnant people go to happy hour...

...it's just not as "happy!" Last Friday we went to an FIT alumni happy hour that Jason worked hard to organize. It was a huge success, as several FIT aviation alumni turned out for the event. I included a few pictures-- as you can see, the belly is enormous!

baby shower, part 2

Last Friday Jason's office threw us a wonderful baby shower. They had an incredible spread of food, including an adorable cake, and we received so many nice baby gifts! We were flattered by the time, effort and thoughtfulness of everyone. Thanks to the City of Atlanta Dept. of Aviation!

36 weeks and eggplant parmesan

Jason and I went out for dinner last night to our local Italian restaurant, Valentino's. I ordered eggplant parmesan, which I don't usually get but really like. It's a small, family-owned restaurant and so the owner came by our table to make small talk. Noticing that I am very pregnant and was eating eggplant, he asked if I was trying to have the baby soon. Apparently, eggplant is known to kick-start labor. Whether it's an old wives' tale or not, there are some Italian restuarants that have pictures on their walls of what they call "eggplant babies." To date, Valentino's has had four. You can be sure to find me at Valentino's frequently in the next few weeks!

It's hard [for me] to believe, but I will be 36 weeks pregnant (9 months) this Thursday. As of today, I am one month out from my due date of June 8. Of course, I've recently told everyone that I'm shooting for May 30. I'm hoping a steady diet of eggplant will help out... Things are still going very well. There are times when I feel really uncomfortable, but thankfully it's not constant. I've included another belly pic (maybe my last?!) for your viewing pleasure. I'm amazed at the size of this thing! Jason's comment is always, "freaky." He has such a way with words.

Thankfully, from now until d-day, we have no more weekends of traveling or events, etc. It has been a very busy last few months, so it will be nice to stay at home and wait for the baby.

13.1 miles in Nashville

In case you have ever wondered where Jason gets his athletic enthusiasm, look no further than his parents. This past weekend, Barbara and Hugh successfully completed their first half-marathon (13.1 miles) at the Nashville Country Music Marathon. Despite the threat of rain, the weather for race day turned out to be perfect-- overcast and high 60s to low 70s. Jason and I showed up as the support crew (see our t-shirts below) and cheered his parents on at the start and finish lines. With more than 22,000 race participants and the thousands of spectators, the energy in the crowd was electrifying!

Hugh finished in 2:27 and Barbara finished in 3:10. Alongside them was their friend Phyllis from Hilton Head who finished in 2:41. And, we're happy to report, no one had to be carried over the finish line! In fact, they are already planning for their next race!
