Best buddies & neighbors

These 4 are a riot. And when they're all getting along, they have some of the best times together.

Friends we've made

If there's one thing we've done during our stay in Peachtree City, it is create wonderful friends. There isn't a post big enough to share pictures of the many great friends we are lucky enough to know, so here are just a few.

"How I Spent My Summer"

If there was one word that described the summer of 2011 for us, it would be: "pool." We've averaged about 3 trips a week to the pool. And more often than not, at least one of the boys' friends join us. More recently, the boys and their friends have been making little picnics during adult swim time. It's so cute -- they all pool their food together and sit and share with each other.

4th of July '11

In true Peachtree City style, we overdid it for the 4th. Parade in the a.m., pool for lunch and fireworks late into the evening. It was an exhausting day, but since the 4th is one of my favorite holidays, it's exactly what I would have wanted.

Evan was yelling, "Happy 4th of July!" Grant was yelling, "Happy Father's Day!"

Grant

Our "quiet one" has really broken out of his shell. He's not quite the social butterfly that Evan is (hard to top that), but he definitely holds his own in a crowd of kids. Grant is also very much three years old. He's active, has to touch everything in sight and likes to test, test, test. Ah, the joys of being three! The picture below was taken this afternoon at a Memorial Day barbecue. He's swinging with his friend (and near twin look-alike if you ask me), Skye.

Dad runs playgroup

Jason played playgroup director for a day (when I went to visit a good friend and meet her new baby). As usual, he came up with some creative ways to entertain the kids.

Family goes camping

And survives! We tried our hand at camping this weekend with two 4 year olds and a 2 year old, and I'm happy to say that we enjoyed it enough to do it again! We drove about an hour north of us to Lake Allatoona and planned to stay Saturday afternoon and all day Sunday (though with the food we packed, we should have stayed a week)... however, the weather had other plans. After fierce storms that began around 3 am, we learned that our tent is mostly waterproof and that the boys will mostly sleep through torrential rain, wind, lightning and thunder, even in a tent. I should also mention that we went with our good friends Karin & Paul--parents to Evan's [girl]friend (and future wife, according to Evan), Tess.

The campsite was perched on a spot overlooking the lake.

Grant spent time exploring with his magnifying glass and "nature collection" bag.

Thanks to Karin for the goodies--mini pumpkins, glow bracelets and magnifying glasses.

Wake surfing on Lake Lanier

Evan LOVED wake sufing... and wanted to do it again and again! Thanks to our friends Brandon and Michelle for a great day. And thanks especially for Brandon, who provided the shoulder ride on the wake surf board!

Updates & such: Visitors

Long break from blogging. So busy. Lots of work. Lots of kids. Little sleep. But alas, my public needs an update.

We were treated with some awesome visitors a couple of weeks ago, beginning with an overnight stay from my sister Amanda, bro-in-law Clint and nephew Ethan. It had a been a year since we saw them last so it was great for the kids to get together and learn about each other. We had a blast touring PTC in the golf cart and spending time catching up.

After the family visit, our good friends Chris, Misty and their kids Cole & Caia visited for four days. The boys loved having new live-in playmates and it was great to catch up with old friends. Jason and Chris also raced in a local triathlon during their visit. Unfortunately I took a big-fat ZERO pictures... oh well, next time!

Preschool buddies

One of the perks of preschool is getting to know other families with children the same age. I've come to know two other moms that have kids in Evan's class. We're now part of a weekly kid swap rotation. On Fridays, all 3 kids go to a designated house from 9am-12. In the process, the kids have become good friends. In particular, Evan's BFF (maybe first girlfriend? he does say she's his princess) is a cute little curly-haired blonde named Tess. Added bonus is that Tess lives just around the corner from us. Here's a pic from one of their recent playdates. The sweet little brunette on the left is Quinn.

Florida trip... making new friends

Last weekend, we took a road trip down to Florida to visit our friends Chris, Misty, Cole & Caia. Chris is Jason's good friend from college days. The kids got along so well with one another, which made for such an enjoyable trip. And despite our drive home taking about 10 hours (we did stop at the Rollins campus for a quick visit), it was a fun trip.

Oh yeah-- the reason for our trip was a sprint distrance triathlon that Jason raced with Chris. This is the one-and-only picture I took of the event.

Can you believe that it was warm enough there to be in a pool? It's freezing in GA right now!

Oh, and Grant was there too.

Cinderella, take 2

Some of you seasoned readers of In the Moment may remember last year's Halloween where I dressed as Cinderella. Turns out, that's the perfect costume for a "princess party." Notice the updates: blonde wig, altered sleeves. The things you do for kids! And no, I don't plan to go bleach blonde anytime soon (or ever)!

My, how they grow

Seeing the pictures from the post below reminded me of a similar scene of the four kids back in January. Amazing what 9 months can do!

In other news...

A couple of days before the hospital excursion, the boys and I spent the night at my friend Heather's house. The four kids played, ate, fought, played some more and slept mostly through the night.

Later that evening...

After the birthday festivities died down (ie, the cake was gone), the kids were sentenced to bed. After all, it was NOT their birthday! Someone (Jason) had the bright idea that maybe all three kids would sleep in the tent. It worked. For about 5 minutes. Maybe 10.
