"How I Spent My Summer"
If there was one word that described the summer of 2011 for us, it would be: "pool." We've averaged about 3 trips a week to the pool. And more often than not, at least one of the boys' friends join us. More recently, the boys and their friends have been making little picnics during adult swim time. It's so cute -- they all pool their food together and sit and share with each other.

4th of July '11
In true Peachtree City style, we overdid it for the 4th. Parade in the a.m., pool for lunch and fireworks late into the evening. It was an exhausting day, but since the 4th is one of my favorite holidays, it's exactly what I would have wanted.
Evan was yelling, "Happy 4th of July!" Grant was yelling, "Happy Father's Day!"

Catching up & summer life
A month and-a-half into summer and I'm thinking it's time to update the blog. Let's see, our weekly summer activities look something like this: pool, golf cart rides, naps, pool, bike rides around the pond with Bullit in tow (ps: to clarify, only the children are riding bikes these days), library story and craft events, more pool, playdates with friends, field trips into Atlanta, and more and more and still more pool. We have our good days and the really, really tough days. The days that make me SO happy that I do not have a newborn to add to the mix during these dog days of summer. Nice that I planned the due date within a week of school starting.
The most exciting part of spending so much time at the pool is that we now have two boys who can swim! Grant, who wouldn't even go beyond the first step at the beginning of summer, is now swimming with his face in the water, kicking his legs and using his arms.
I have taken exactly -0- pictures of the boys in the pool, but here's what I do have.

Wake surfing on Lake Lanier
Evan LOVED wake sufing... and wanted to do it again and again! Thanks to our friends Brandon and Michelle for a great day. And thanks especially for Brandon, who provided the shoulder ride on the wake surf board!

Garden 2010
Last summer, I ventured into the world of gardening. I called it my "trial year" since I am not known for having a green thumb. I figured if I could keep a scattering of tomato plants and herbs alive, then I would allow myself a larger garden the following year. Enter spring, 2010. I'm calling it the "Year of the Garden."
Jason put in two days of back-breaking work to create my tiered, raised bed garden. We used nearly every inch of our compost pile to fill it with the dark, nutrient rich soil (with lots of little worms). I've been growing little seedlings indoor for the past few weeks. I was able to plant zucchini right away, but the others will have to wait a while. In the trellis planter are some green beans. Also on the menu for this year's garden: tomatoes, cucumbers, cantaloupe, sweet corn, basil, rosemary, red and green peppers and lettuce. I can't wait to harvest!

Peachtree City rapids
We've made an effort to get out more and enjoy the local sights and adventures. Now that we have a golf cart, we can trek out to the fun little nooks & crannies much easier. Today, we took a picnic lunch to a spot near a creek that's running high right now due to the recent rain. It's the closest thing we have to whitewater that's safe enough for the little ones.

Turned on the B&W filter to capture Grant stuffing his face.

Stuff we do when we're not at home
This past weekend, we took a trip to Hilton Head to visit "Grandmon [Soon] & Pawpaw" and spend some time with our friends Kevin & Amanda. It goes without saying that Evan had a blast and came home exhausted. Jason and I also had a great time, and came home feeling a little more rested and revived. Grant is Grant. He came home and was just as happy as when we were not at home. A few pics from the weekend...
Grandmon set Evan up with his very own cooking show. We're hoping to sign a deal with Food Network.

And last but not least, we have a picture of Daddy & Grant

Florida vacation
For Jason and I, a trip to Florida has nothing to do with Disney World and everything to do with the beach. This past weekend, we took our first family road trip, since Grant was born, to Melbourne, Florida. Our friends, Diego & Mary, and their son Luis, graciously offered to let us stay a few nights with them in their beach house rental . We also spent some time with our good friends Chris & Misty and their son Cole.
We had a fantastic time catching up with friends, swimming in the pool, playing in the surf and letting the boys interact. The trip was also a great learning experience for Jason and I on how to travel with 2 young children. We both took home some lessons that we'll keep in mind for next time: 1) travel through the night, 2) when traveling during the day, make lots of stops to break up the trip, 3) schedule golf outings first thing in the morning, 4) Mommy likes her margaritas on the rocks and 5) leave the kids with Grandma & Grandpa. Ok, kidding on that last part (maybe).
This is what Grant did during most of our vacation. He started sleeping 7-8 hours at night!

Evan found a great playmate in Luis, who is about 6 months younger. Apart from a few spats over sharing (ugh!), they got along very well.

Mary and the 3 boys.

We rediscovered this summer that Evan is a fish! He has NO fear of the water (scary!) and is showing all the signs of being ready to learn to swim.

Jason enjoyed sharing his love for the ocean with Evan.

Evan had fun collecting shells during low tide.

Grant's reaction to his first experience of the ocean.
